Safe Haven, released this Valentine's Day, is based off the book by Nicholas Sparks, which came out a few years ago. I'm one of those people that HAS to read the book before seeing the movie, because I like to spot the differences while I'm watching it.
The movie starred Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel, who both did an amazing job portraying their characters. For this book/movie, it's very difficult to say what it's about without giving the main problem away, so I'm just going to say that Katie (Julianne Hough) is running away from something/someone dangerous. It's not a sappy love story, because there is a little bit of violence and there's a lot of twists and minor characters that are really important to the story.
If you don't read the book before the movie, you might be a little confused while watching, but you should be fine as long as you pay attention (although I ALWAYS recommend reading the book first).
The movie was very well made although there were a few pretty major changes that I wasn't fond off. First of all, they changed the way that Katie escaped, and took out the first couple scenes in the book. They also changed the name of a character, which I thought was strange and pointless. The ending scene was different, but it was still generally the same ending as the book.
I'm not sure how much longer this movie is going to be in theatres, but I would recommend reading the book before you go. This is definitely a new favorite of mine (basically all Nicholas Sparks' book-to-movies are my favorite!), and I really hope you check it out.
It's PG-13, by the way. I love it, because there is maybe one or two scenes that could be considered slightly inappropriate, and then there's a little violence, but it's very important to the story.
Have you read/seen Safe Haven or do you want to? What did you think?
Also, I won an award, keep reading if you'd like...
1.) Acknowledge the person who passed the award to you and provide their link.
Thank you, Stacy!
2.) Include the award logo on your blog.
3.) Answer the ten questions posted below.
What is your favorite Super Bowl commercial and why? (It can be a commercial from the past or now). Hm... I really don't watch the Super Bowl unless my hometeam is in it, so I don't really know any that well. Although, I can tell you my least favorite would be GoDaddy because they're messed up and completely unnecessary because there are little kids watching the game, and no one wants to see that...
If you were a fish for a day, what would you do? (Provided that you didn’t get caught by a fisherman, of course). First of all, I would hate to be a fish, because the water's gross and sharks are terrifying. But if I was one, I would make friends with another threatening creature, so then potentially sharks would leave me alone.
What is one thing that you are excited for this year? I am so excited for summer, because I really need a break!
One afternoon, the Doctor shows up on your doorway, and with a serious expression on his face, he says the words that you’ve only heard him say on television, “Would you be my companion?” Do you accept the offer and run with him, or would you not, knowing that you have a normal life to attend to? Hahahaha, I don't think I would; I like my life just the way it is now.
It is a windy afternoon, and you are walking home from somewhere tedious, when you happen to chance upon someone important… Who is it, what is the reason for you bumping into them? Jeez, I actually have to think just to answer these questions. I think it would be pretty awesome to run in to God, and just be like, "Hey, I'm having a bad day, let's go for a walk." And then, I wouldn't mind the wind anymore. :P
You have the chance to Skype with anyone (including animals and/or extraterrestrials), who is it and what do you two talk about? I would Skype with Zac Efron, and we would plan our wedding, for sure.
What is your favorite piece of writing that you have read this year? (It can be a quote, book, fanfiction, etc.) Probably my favorite thing so far has been re-reading Divergent and Insurgent by Veronica Roth, because the final book is coming out, and her books are amazing.
Have you done something badly on purpose, just so you won’t have to do it again? Not that I can think of actually, but I'm sure I will in the future.
Do you have a platonic relationship with anyone? If so who? If not, do you want one? If so, who? No, I don't currently, and I really don't want one. I'm not all about sex or anything AT ALL! (I'm actually one of those uber crazy people in this generation that want to wait until they're married. Crazy, right? Who knew morals even existed nowadays? Ok, I'm kind of being sarcastic.) Anyway, I think if I love someone and wanted to be with them, a platonic relationship would not work out...
Do you remember any random lyrics that may have been floating around in your head lately? If so, what are they? The song Cemetery Drive by My Chemical Romance is always in my head because it's one of my favorites.
4.)Make up your own ten questions for the next people.
What's your favorite thing about blogging?
What movie or book character are you most like?
Why?
Who do people tell you you look like?
Who was your first celebrity crush? (Go Jesse McCartney! :D)
Who was the last person to give you useful advice?
Do you have a favorite teacher or professor? What was it about their teaching that made them your favorite?
What is your favorite book-to-movie?
If you were Jack on the Titanic, and there was obviously enough room on the raft thing with Rose, would you climb on with her? Or would you be dumb and hold her hand and die from hypothermia instead?
Sorry if the last question's offensive, but it's SO true...
5.) Nominate blogs and link those you have especially enjoyed reading. The number you can select is up to you. As you all know, I nominate everyone, because you're all amazing.
Hope you all have a great day, thanks for reading!

Haven't seem this movie yet but my mom did and loved it! Agreed that you should always read the book first, however, Zero Dark Thirty was way better than its book counterpart "No Easy Day". Looking forward to watching Safe Haven.

Loved this movie/book, Juliet - glad its a favorite of yours also. :)
ReplyDeleteI understood the change in the opening (it was more dramatic and a movie has to keep up a breath-catching pace) and also MUCH preferred the ending. It seemed, somehow more complete than merely being in Katie's thoughts.
Enjoyed reading your review. :)
I do agree that a fast-pace is important, but I dont think they should have changed completely how she escaped. Im glad you saw it and enjoyed it!
